Quick Inquiry

1. Why γ-Retroviruses can only infect dividing cells?
That is because γ-Retroviruses can not cross the host cells’ nuclear membrane and can not enter into the cells’ nucleus. However, during cell division, the nuclear membrane is temporarily disrupted which allows γ-Retroviruses to get access to the chromosomal DNA for completion of the infection and integration.
