INTRODUCTION

Chimeric Antigen Receptors (CARs) are recombinant receptors that are composed of four regions: an antigen recognition domain (ectodomain), a hinge region, a transmembrane region, and an intracellular T cell signaling domain (endodomain). CAR-T cell therapy uses T cells engineered with CARs to target specific antigen(s) for cancer immunotherapy.

CD4 (cluster of differentiation 4) is a membrane glycoprotein of T lymphocytes that serves as a co-receptor for the T-cell receptor (TCR) to recognize antigens. CD4 is expressed on the surface of immune cells such as T lymphocytes, B cells, monocytes, macrophages and dendritic cells. It can initiate or amplify the early phase of T-cell activation, and may play roles in infectious and immune-mediated diseases of the central nervous system. CD4 protein is a target of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cells used in the treatment of cancers.
