Retroviruses are powerful tools for the efficient delivery of exogenous genes into a wide type of dividing mammalian cells. Gamma-retroviruses pseudotyped with VSV-G envelope proteins are most commonly used in gene delivery. Because of they can integrate into host cell genome, they are widely used in generation of stable cell lines.
